Nicola Shipley came to the university as a guest speaker. She came to talk about her involvement with the Grain projects and what they do.
The Grain projects is a group of people that works with photographers and artists by supporting them to produce new work. They also help to exhibit the photos they create.
Some of the current projects and photographers they are working with are:
Kate Peters - Celebrating Age
Kate Peters is working on creating a community archive by working with older people from three residential homes. She is using photography to celebrate and tell stories of peoples families, unique achievements and their lives in this beautiful collaboration project.
Arpita Shah - Modern Muse
Arpita Shah is working with South Asian women in and around Birmingham in a project that explores the identities of young South Asian woman. She gives an insight into the perspectives of these women through her portraits.
Marco Kesseler - Agriculture
Marco Kesseler looks at the relationship and uncertainties between Brexit and the agricultural industry. He explores the landscapes where the country's food is produced and the people who work to harvest it by visiting and working with farming communities across the country.
